I am building The Club for analysts who want to work in professional football. It is a place to learn from the people doing the job, share your work, get feedback and build a portfolio that shows what you can do.
The Club is in development and we are aiming to open in early 2027. This article explains why it exists, who it is for, what it will involve and how the plan unfolds from here. Founding members on the waitlist are first in line for the first cohort.
01
Why The Club exists
Football analysis is a growing industry, but the route into it is not clear. Many analysts are held back by the same three barriers.
The barrier
What The Club does
The Club is designed to remove those barriers: a platform and a voice for analysts, and a place to develop into high-performing professionals whose work meets the standard of the elite game.
02
Who it’s for
The Club is for analysts who want to work in the football analysis industry. The aim is a group of high-performing analysts producing work to the standard of the elite game.
With or without a portfolio.
Across the skills the industry looks for.
Work that meets what practitioners set.
A portfolio professionals can judge.
- Anyone with the ambition. There is no limit on where you start. Anyone who wants to work in football analysis can join the waitlist, with or without a portfolio.
- Progress is earned. It is not a free-for-all. Analysts progress by evidencing work that meets the standard practitioners set for analysts to be employable at the elite level of the game.
- Seen by the industry. Analysts who reach that standard build a portfolio that gives them exposure to professionals across the game: clubs, practitioners, businesses, member associations and federations.
03
What it will involve
The Club is built on four parts, each one leading to the next. All four describe what will be available once The Club opens.
Learning modules, resources and practical tasks built on how analysis is done in the professional game.
PlannedShare your work with other analysts, review theirs and improve it together.
PlannedFeedback from people working at the top of the game, plus live calls, lessons and webinars.
PlannedA body of work you can show to practitioners, clubs and others in the industry.
PlannedFree resources and materials will always be available in The Portal. The Club goes further: more depth, and the benefits of the environment around it. You learn alongside other analysts, get feedback and reviews on your work, and gain exposure to the elite game, as well as the education itself.
Peer review and practitioner feedback do different jobs. Other members help test whether your explanation is clear. Someone working at the top of the game can help you examine the football question in more depth, and tell you whether the work would stand up in their environment.
Contributor arrangements are not agreed yet, so the practitioner side is an ambition rather than something I can promise at opening.
04
Why progress is earned
Anyone can start, but nobody is handed a place in front of the industry. That is what gives a portfolio from The Club its value: the people looking at it know the work has met a standard.
The standard comes from practitioners: what analysts need to show to be employable at the elite level. A portfolio should make it possible to judge the work itself.
The clips and data show what the analyst says they show.
A coach or player could follow it the first time.
They make the point clearer, rather than decorating it.
The next version is better because of the review.
The Club is designed to work closely with its members: to improve the quality of their work and to give them access to education. Around them is a community of thriving analysts, elite practitioners and educators. There is also exposure to the people who employ analysts and work in recruitment, who understand what it takes to be recruited at the highest level of the game and across professional football.
People in the industry will see the work being produced. Analysts in The Club will be known for high-quality work, and the aim is that this reputation forms the connection between the two.
That connection is an aim, not a promise. Joining The Club does not guarantee work, a club opportunity or a place in the portfolio area. What it offers is the support, the standard and the exposure to show what you can do.
05
A two-way platform
The Club works in both directions. Analysts get expose to the professional football industry, and the industry gets a reliable place to find elite level analysts whose work meets the high standards expected.
For analysts
- A platform and a voice
- Fewer barriers to entry
- Development to the elite standard
For clubs and practitioners
- Direct access to high-performing analysts
- Their work to see first
- For project work or employment
Clubs · practitioners · businesses · member associations · federations
That is why the standard matters. If the people on the other side can trust the work they see, the platform becomes useful to them, and more useful to every analyst in it.

01
Why The Club exists
Football analysis is a growing industry, but the route into it is not clear. Many analysts are held back by the same three barriers.
01
The barrier
Qualified, but not proven. Formal education is filling the market with analysts who are qualified on paper. A qualification does not show the quality of their work. What The Club does
Judges the work, not the certificate. Progress depends on meeting the standard practitioners set.02
The barrier
No access to the elite game. Analysts learn and develop through exposure to elite environments, and most never get it.What The Club does
Brings that exposure to you: feedback, lessons and live calls with people working at the top of the game.03
The barrier
No easy route between analysts and employers. Analysts have few places to show what they can do, and employers have no simple way to find the best of them. What The Club does
Gives both sides an easy route. Analysts expose their work and showcase their capabilities. Employers gain simple, straightforward access to a market of high-quality, elite-performing analysts. The Club is designed to remove those barriers: a platform and a voice for analysts, and a place to develop into high-performing professionals whose work meets the standard of the elite game.
